Please be advised that there is construction at Foley Pond in Orion Township this week (Nov. 8 – 12). Please use caution while traveling in that area of the trail.
Please be advised that sections of the trail will be temporarily closed tomorrow, Wednesday, August 18th, for invasive species treatment. The trail will be closed in Lake Orion from the Atwater trailhead to Newton Street and in Rochester Hills from Dutton Road to the Moutrie Pollinator Garden (1/4 mile north of Tienken). Please do not cross the barriers while treatment is in progress. The barriers will be removed once it is safe to travel through the area. Thank you!
Please be advised that controlled burns will be held along the Paint Creek Trail today. The purpose of the burns is to stimulate the prairie and oak savanna plant communities along the trail while discouraging invasive plants such as buckthorn, autumn olive, and multiflora rose. The burn will begin around 10:30 or 11 am at the first burn unit between Silverbell Rd and Dutton Rd, and will move to the Paint Creek Heritage Area – Wet Prairie just north of Silverbell Rd when that burn is complete. Please use caution if you are planning on visiting these areas.
Please be advised that Thursday, March 25, 2021, crews will be surveying and taking soil borings on the trail just north of the Royal Oak Archers site in Oakland Township. Temporary closures may occur as a result of this work. Please use caution in this area.
Bridge 33.7 Update: Yesterday, we had a large sinkhole at the southern end of Bridge 33.7 on the Paint Creek Trail in Oakland Township. It was supposed to be replaced this summer, but the bids came back too high and the project has been delayed until Spring 2019. We contacted our engineers and provided them a photo of the sinkhole, and the measures that were taken to repair it. Based on that information, they have advised that the hole…
Bridge Construction Update: Bad news for us, good news for trail users! Our bridge construction project and resurfacing is being postponed to early 2019. Bids came back way higher than our engineer’s estimate. The trail will remain open. We’re hoping to re-bid in October, with construction to start in March 2019. Stay tuned!
Trail Conditions: Trail is in good shape. A few ruts here and there. Crews will be doing some minor tree removal work between Dutton and Silverbell today, tomorrow, and Thursday. The trail will have to be closed from 10am-1pm on Thursday, May 10 between Dutton and Silverbell for them to finish. Please plan accordingly.
FYI: There will be Prescribed Prairie Burns along the trail in Oakland Township starting at 10am today, April 30. They will be south of Silver Bell, working their way to just north of Gallagher. Trail will be open, but expect smoky conditions.
