National Trails Day is Saturday, June 5, 2021. According to the American Hiking Society, “National Trails Day is the only nationally coordinated event designed to unite all muscle-powered trail activities with the goal of connecting more people to trails. Every trail beckons adventure and has a story to share with any person willing to discover it, and American Hiking Society believes these trail experiences can improve the lives of every American. A sampling of NTD events held nationally: hiking, biking, running, trail maintenance, birding, wildlife photography, paddle trips, trail dedications, health-focused programs and children’s activities”
This year the Paint Creek Trail will be celebrating National Trails Day by hosting a weeklong virtual scavenger hunt along the trail! Using the free GooseChase app, participants will be able to complete fun interactive multimedia challenges on the trail and have the chance to win a basket of prizes.
The scavenger hunt will run from May 30th through June 5th. Participants will be invited to complete a final mission on June 5th by visiting the Paint Creek Trail booth outside Cookies & Cream in downtown Lake Orion from noon to 3:00pm.
To participate, download the free GooseChase app on your smartphone and create an account. To join the game, enter “National Trails Day” in the search box. You will then be able to create a new team or join a current one or you can play as an individual.
The game will automatically start on May 30th at 12:01am and missions will be available to complete until June 5th at 2:59pm. Your score is determined by the total points earned, so free to play throughout the week.
